Safeplace Inc.

We at Bambean Baby believe in the importance of giving back to those in need. Our company is committed to giving as much as we can, as often as we can. We believe in seeking out organizations in need of help that have personal meaning to us, our local community, as well as the community we have created within our very own organization. Most importantly, we seek to find organizations whose missions aren't as well known, so that we can help bring awareness to those that need it.

A portion of all sales from the Valentine's drop will benefit an organization that is very near and dear to my heart - Safeplace, Inc. My goal is to not only assist financially with our donations, but to also bring awareness to a topic that is often uncomfortable and not talked about enough - domestic violence and child abuse. As well as educating on the options and your rights, and to empower anyone that has or is currently going through it.

Safeplace is a domestic violence shelter, local to us, that serves victims primarily in the Northwest Alabama region. However, they are able to help wherever you live. Safeplace provides many, many services to those going through domestic violence, such as: safe shelters, housing and food resources, relocation assisting, counseling services, support groups, legal and court advocacy, childcare and much more. I simply cannot do this amazing organization justice with my words, so I encourage you to read more about Safeplace below or on their website. If you aren't local to the Northwest Alabama region, I encourage you to research the local domestic violence organizations in your area and help however you can!

Statistics show that approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men face domestic violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Statistics show that 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse or neglect.

I got the idea to choose Safeplace as the nonprofit to bring attention to this drop from our most popular print - Momstruck, and to honor my mother, a domestic violence survivor. My mom, myself and my 3 siblings were victims of domestic violence and child abuse for many years. Safeplace assisted my mom many times over the years of her marriage to my dad. We are so thankful for the work they did for us and continue to do for others every single day.

It took me a long time to recognize the trauma I went through as a child and the impact it has had on me as an adult. I am a cycle breaker in a LOT of ways, but most importantly in breaking the domestic violence cycle. I hope anyone that needs it finds empowerment in these words...It CAN end with you.

If you're fortunate to never experience abuse, I can assure you that you know someone who has. If you see something; say something. Don't be afraid to speak up. Let them know there is help out there. If you are currently facing a domestic violence situation, PLEASE reach out to Safeplace or any other domestic violence prevention and protection program near you.

Safeplace, Inc. is one of seventeen domestic violence shelters serving victims of domestic violence throughout the state of Alabama. As the only comprehensive domestic violence program in Northwest Alabama, Safeplace serves Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Marion, and Winston Counties.

OUR HISTORY

The term “domestic violence” started to appear in the United States in the 1970s. By 1976, the first domestic violence shelter in the U.S. opened in New York. Safeplace became incorporated in 1979 by a small group of concerned citizens who called themselves the lunch sack group. This group met once a week for a few years as they worked to bring Safeplace into being. In June of 1981, Safeplace opened its doors, and the shelter was filled to capacity on the first day. Since that time, with the help of federal and state funding, independent grants, and a tremendous amount of community contributions, Safeplace has grown into a comprehensive domestic violence program with two shelter locations, five outreach offices, and a vast array of services designed to eliminate barriers for victims.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to promote healthy relationships by providing education, intervention, and safe places.

OUR VISION

We whole-heartedly believe in our clients’ self-determination, and we’re dedicated to living in a world where family and intimate partner violence does not exist.
